The state sales tax rate in Louisiana is 5%.
The Department of Revenue says sales and use taxes levied by political subdivisions of the state are in addition to the state's tax. Its FAQ says local sales tax rate information is available from the Louisiana Association of Tax Administrators.
The Department says labor to fabricate, repair or maintain tangible personal property is generally subject to sales tax, while labor to construct, install, remodel or repair immovable (real) property is generally not. Certain installation, application, remodeling or repair labor may also be nontaxable if the labor charges are separately stated on the invoice.

Louisiana law bars any person or firm from life safety and property protection contracting, which covers mechanical and electronic locks, without a current license from the state fire marshal. It defines a locksmith technician as someone who sells, repairs, services, installs or bypasses locking systems.
R.S. 37:1367 says no natural person may do the work of a master plumber, journeyman plumber or residential plumber limited without a license issued by the board. An employing entity may not hold itself out as engaged in plumbing unless it employs a master plumber.
The Board's Electrical classification covers installing, altering, maintaining or repairing wiring, fixtures and equipment that supply electricity, for projects where the value of the work exceeds $10,000.
The Board's Heat, Air Conditioning, Ventilation, Duct Work, and Refrigeration subclassification covers installing, maintaining or repairing air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration, and a license is required when the value exceeds $10,000.
The Department lists the 5% state rate as effective January 1, 2025 and applying until December 31, 2029; the rate through December 31, 2024 was 4.45%.
Louisiana's Parish E-File offers a combined return that lets each business location report state and local sales tax activity at once and submits the state and local returns to the taxing authorities.
