The state sales tax rate in Vermont is 6%.
Municipalities can vote to add a 1% local option sales tax, which makes the total 7% (6% + 1%). The Department of Taxes lists the participating towns with their effective dates and offers a Local Option Tax Finder to check an address.
In its guide for the automotive repair industry, Vermont's Department of Taxes says installation and labor are not subject to sales tax, but if labor and materials are not separately stated the entire charge becomes taxable. Its contractor guidance says the cost of service is not subject to sales tax and contractors pay the tax on the materials they buy.

Vermont's Electrical Safety Rules, issued by the Electricians' Licensing Board and the Division of Fire Safety, provide for a Type-S journeyman electrician license limited to a named specialty field. One of those fields, G7k, is electrical lock installation including delayed egress and access control.
