The state sales tax rate in Texas is 6.25%.
Cities, counties, special purpose districts and transit authorities can add up to 2% in local sales and use tax, for a combined maximum rate of 8.25%.
The Comptroller lists appliance repair as a taxable service, and all charges for labor and materials to rebuild, replace, alter, modify or upgrade existing nonresidential real property are taxable; property used as a family dwelling is not nonresidential real property.

The DPS Private Security Program licenses locksmiths: a Class B Security Contractor Company License covers locksmith companies, and Locksmith is one of the individual license types it issues.
The board is the state agency that licenses plumbers; it issues Tradesman Plumber-Limited, Journeyman Plumber, Master Plumber and Plumbing Inspector licenses, plus registrations such as Plumber's Apprentice and Drain Cleaner.
Anyone who performs, or offers to perform, non-exempt electrical work in Texas must be licensed and do that work through a licensed electrical contractor.
Contractors who install, repair or maintain air conditioning, refrigeration or heating systems must hold a TDLR license; TDLR also registers and certifies technicians.
The Comptroller lists locksmith services as a taxable security service, meaning a service that needs a license from the Texas Department of Public Safety under Occupations Code sections 1702.101 or 1702.102.
Pest control and extermination, janitorial and custodial services, and landscaping and lawn maintenance are taxable real property services in Texas, according to the Comptroller.
The Comptroller tells each new permit holder whether to file monthly or quarterly. Monthly reports are due on the 20th of the month after the reporting month; quarterly reports are due Jan. 20, April 20, July 20 and Oct. 20.
