The Department of Revenue's list of local taxes is mostly hotel, restaurant and bar levies in specific cities and counties, but it also includes broader sales levies, such as Jackson's 1% special infrastructure tax and Tupelo's 0.25% water procurement facility tax on retail sales and services.
The Department lists air conditioning installation or repairs, electrical work and repairs, and plumbing or pipe fitting among the services subject to sales tax equal to 7% of the gross income of the business. Its contractor guide says non-residential construction contracts over $10,000 instead carry a 3.5% contractor's tax on the contract price.

The State Board of Contractors licenses commercial and residential contractors. Its plumbing specialty classification covers installation, maintenance and repair of commercial and residential plumbing systems, and a separate residential classification is limited to residential plumbing work.
The State Board of Contractors' electrical classification covers installation, repair, alteration, addition to or design of electrical wiring, fixtures, appliances, apparatus, raceways and conduit.
