The state sales tax rate in Michigan is 6%.
The Department of Treasury says sellers of tangible personal property to the final consumer remit a 6% sales tax on the total price of taxable retail sales (4% on residential electricity, natural or artificial gas and home heating fuels), and that Michigan does not allow city or local units to impose sales tax.
Treasury says that since April 26, 2023 most delivery and installation charges are not subject to sales and use tax if the seller separately itemizes them on the customer's invoice and keeps books and records showing how the tax was calculated; otherwise the charges remain taxable.

The Bureau of Construction Codes licenses journey plumbers, master plumbers and plumbing contractors, and registers apprentice plumbers.
The Bureau of Construction Codes licenses electrical journeymen, master electricians and electrical, fire alarm and sign contractors, and registers electrical apprentices.

Michigan sales tax returns are due monthly (the 20th of the following month), quarterly (the 20th of the month after the quarter ends) or annually (February 28); Treasury sets each filer's frequency every year, and all filers must submit an annual return by February 28.
Entities must register with Treasury to receive a Michigan sales tax license, which is valid from January 1 through December 31.
