Counties, municipalities and, in the Chicago area, the Northern Illinois Transit Authority add their own taxes on top of the state's 6.25% rate. The home rule portion is set in 0.25% steps with no maximum rate limit, and the MyTax Illinois Tax Rate Finder gives the rate for a specific location.
