The state sales tax rate in Georgia is 4%.
Counties and cities add local sales taxes (such as LOST, SPLOST, educational, MARTA and TSPLOST taxes) to the 4% state rate. The Department of Revenue publishes a rate chart by jurisdiction for each calendar quarter.
Georgia treats most services as exempt from sales tax; the exceptions it names include lodging, in-state passenger transportation, admissions and amusements. The statute the Department quotes also leaves installation charges out of the taxable sales price when they are separately stated on the invoice.

The October 1, 2026 rate chart lists Atlanta at 8.9% in both Fulton and DeKalb counties. It lists two small Fulton County districts, Central Yards and South Downtown, at 3.9%, and those do not include the 4% state rate.
