The sales tax rate in the District of Columbia is 6%.
The rate shown is the District's own general sales tax rate: 6.0% on tangible personal property and most taxable services (certain enumerated services have different rates). It is scheduled to rise to 7.0% on October 1, 2027.
DC taxes real property maintenance services, meaning upkeep work that keeps a building's premises clean and in working order, including minor adjustments and repairs such as lighting maintenance and pest control. Painting and other work done as part of construction or a major repair is not included.

The Office of Tax and Revenue says the increase in the general sales tax rate to 7% has been postponed and that the 6% rate remains in effect through September 30, 2027, so earlier notices that date the increase to October 1, 2026 are out of date.

Yes. Add the rate under Settings → Tax Rates and choose it as the shop’s default under Settings → Outlets. IntelliDrive OS uses one tax rate per shop, so a business with shops in different tax areas sets a rate for each shop.
